ARC Communities Ltd – Who we are

ARC Communities seek to inspire, motivate and care for people living in chaos or crisis because of homelessness or serious substance misuse issues, without prejudice or discrimination, supporting them back into stability and independent living within their communities by embracing them as unique, necessary and totally worthwhile members of society.

On the whole, nobody chooses to become homeless, or find themselves addicted to drugs or alcohol with lives spiralling out of control. Nobody enjoys sleeping in a shop doorway, on a park bench, or under a pier, vulnerable to the elements and unsympathetic passers-by. We don’t choose to find ourselves in a position whereby because of maybe bad choices or circumstances maybe beyond our control, we have nowhere to go, no one to turn to or anyone who cares about us, where we are, or what we are doing. For that reason, ARC Communities has been seeking to be that body of people that can stand in the gap and ‘care’. Since September 2008 our primary concern has been to provide for the basic needs of some of societies most vulnerable social groups by providing respite from the streets, sustenance, shower & clothing facilities, and advice, guidance & sign posting through our Drop-In provisions.

Our success is grounded in the relationships we’ve built with the Faith Based Communities of North Wales who have partnered with us to provide premises and donations of food, clothing and funding. Our Drop-Ins are manned almost entirely by teams of volunteers who undertake a whole range of duties which include catering, mentoring, gardening and cleaning. Our participants can also volunteer, and in some cases, have used the experience to progress into training and employment.

Local communities have supported our work as have the local authorities and a variety of professional organisations working in the Criminal Justice field. Because we have chosen to operate outside of typical charitable funding streams, we are reliant on the regular sponsorship and donations that come in from the local community to cover the cost of our food bills and volunteer expenses. We have developed a scheme where local organisations, groups or individuals sponsor their local project an amount per week they feel they can afford to help towards the provision of a hot meal. We have had an excellent response from the faith based community in Colwyn Bay, and are now seeking to expand this sponsorship scheme more generally in North Wales
